There's so many ways to answer that question.

First of all, we had this amazing template of the British office.

Mackenzie Crook, who played Gareth on that show, was very different than Dwight, but did a lot of similar things.

And it was great to be able to watch his magnificent work and basically steal some good bits from him.

One thing I loved the way that he did is he would say the most absurd things, the most absurd sentences known to man.

with just absolute sincerity whatsoever.
