I thought to myself, look, here I am doing my term papers on um Shankara's ideas, right?
Redavedanta.
Um I remember really loving philosophy, like deeply, even my intro philosophy course.
Um
first year and I remember sort of doing the math a few years later and thinking, well, it's you know, I didn't realize at the time that philosophy was Western philosophy.
I didn't it didn't it was rather naive.
But I I I really didn't have the context.
You know, I grew up in Toronto and my family was West Indian and so
uh these ideas weren't part of our household or our consciousness.
And so when I discovered some staggering Indian philosophy that really succeeded in bringing me back to school.
to study literature and philosophy and history under what we call religious studies, because there's nowhere else really to study.
philosophy and literature of India in the West in that way.

Well, I I th that's a great comment and you've segued into exactly what I wanted to ask next, which was about the the first chapter of your book, talking about the extent to which um
Indian philosophy is philosophy and I think you've more or less answered that.

Um, my my immediate undergrad experience was over twenty years ago at the University of Toronto.
