It's a diversion.
You know, you're having fun with your friends, but I now kind of wonder whether for him it didn't make any difference if he got there or something else to think about, something fun to do while you have cancer.

I'm out here at the edge of the world.
And it makes me think of Richard Feynman being here, looking out on the ocean.
And I'd like to read a poem that he wrote about that.
He says, for instance, I stand at the seashore alone and start to think.
There are rushing waves, mountains of molecules, each minding its own business, trillions apart.
yet forming white surf in unison.
Ages on ages, before any eyes could see, year after year, thunderously pounding the shore as now.
For whom?
For what?
On a dead planet with no life to entertain.
