But hey, at least they're asking the questions.
Well, we need to take a step back and think about what happened here from a logical perspective and, you know, ask ourselves the question, first of all, from more of a philosophical perspective, could this have been prevented?
Absolutely, it could have.
You know, if there had been better controls in place, if things had been isolated, segregated...
if credentials were rotated, I don't think this would have happened.
So the questions that organizations should be asking are,
Do we know or would we have the chance to know if something like this happened in our organization?
Are we monitoring things properly inside of our organization?
And really importantly, actually, all of the software solutions that we have in place, all of the third parties that we have in place, could they have picked this up if it had happened in their environment?
Because the chances are you're connected to...
Dozens, if not hundreds of security and non-security tools in your environment that are running on software that could be potentially facing these problems.
So how confident are we that they would have picked it up and their connection to us is invulnerable?
How resilient are we if something like this happens?
Can we pick it up quickly?
Do we have, you know, systems and people that can answer if it happens at three o'clock in the night?
So these are the kind of questions that organizations should be asking themselves.
That's one way, of course.
I'm a big believer in basics and having the basics in place.
The fundamentals still work.
And you have to take a layered approach to this.
