Well, three years later in 1972, the government established a national park in San Francisco, and Alcatraz Island was part of it.
They converted the prison into a museum so tourists could visit and learn about its history.
Every day, people rode a ferry from the San Francisco mainland to the island, and these visitors and museum staff consistently reported strange, bewildering things during their visits.
Take this story from an anonymous night watchman who worked in the museum during the 1970s.
He was walking by the hole one evening when he heard screaming from cell 14D, the very same place that Oscar had died.
