Well, in teaching, I don't know if you ever heard this one about the compliment sandwich.
Start with a compliment, give a criticism, and then another compliment.
So the criticism is in between two compliments.
For example, you mentioned mum coming in in her dress with her funny haircut.
Mum, you always look beautiful.
You're the most beautiful person in my eyes.
To be honest...
Although this haircut's nice, I actually think the previous one highlighted your features a lot better and it suited you.
However, you look great whatever you do, and I love you no matter what.
So then you've got the criticism in the middle of two compliments.
And this is something I try doing with students.
Maybe I shouldn't be telling this here because some of my students might be listening.
