Some things are useful.

Yeah, it's not for everybody.

Some people come in and left very shortly after when they realised what they were actually going to be facing.

I said I was exposed to it early on.

My first job in the Bureau was the death of, I think, a six-month-old baby.

Shortly after that, next job was the accidental shooting of one of our colleagues, John Eafdown in Abbey Leagues.

And I remember like four or five o'clock in the morning, I'm doing the post-mortem and I'm taking a set of prints from my colleague who was alive a few hours earlier.

And I was in the morgue by myself with him.

And I just remember talking to him and saying, sorry, John, sorry what's happened to you.

But I'm just here to do my job and I'll be as quick as I can.

And I know he's passed away, but still.

So like the case in Clontarf, Noel Roach, I came across Noel when he was young, that he was from Sun Drive Road, the station I worked in.

Like I dealt with his brother and unfortunately the two of them were murdered within a short period of time of each other.

Yeah.

i just did my job properly i got justice for him yeah and i remember when the conviction when the jury came back and the culprit was uh convicted i went for a drink with the investigation team and i think it was hughes the local pub there beside the courts and uh noel's um man was there and she shook my hand and she was like say thank you so much for like she was talking about the evidence i've given and said like she was i don't know what word to use actually she was uh

flabbergasted how well this had to come across, you know.

And I said, oh, no, no, just do my job, you know.

And we had a chat and I didn't tell her I had dealt with her two sons before because, God love her, she'd have to lose two sons.

She didn't.
