of Measure A. We kind of dug ourselves a hole by supporting Measure A by not being able to capture that revenue for us and allowing it to go straight to the county to be used however they choose.
assessment?
Right.
They've usurped our cap is basically what happened.

Thank you, Mayor.
I'd like to follow the line of reasoning that Vice Mayor Chow's headed.
If one of our goals is to be the most attractive place for businesses and the most attractive place for residents, one could take a different tack, which was not have the highest taxes and advertise that.
and push that and that actually might generate more revenue, as opposed to trying to get the revenue and causing a situation where businesses flee, not they're going to flee that many, but they're going to leave where they look that as a consideration.
And so it's probably part of a larger strategy to have that comparison information.
I, in general, really do not want to put any burden on taxes onto our residents.
that is unfair and i do to some agree i believe that there is a lot of cost to take out and i know that we're running lean already today but i think there's a lot of costs in areas for in projects where residents really are not pushing for those they seem to be pet projects and i think there's a good number of those that are in the millions that probably could be eliminated and so we haven't done a cost analysis and a cost reduction analysis and we're looking at a revenue generation analysis before a cost analysis
And I think we need to look at both of those things holistically.
Yeah, I want to take a different tact.
I would love staff to think of ways we could be more competitive than our surrounding jurisdictions for business.
And instead of moving in the direction of figuring out what revenue and what raises and taxes we can do, what can we do to attract businesses to want to be in Cupertino?
and choose us as everybody else is moving in one direction in terms of raising taxes.
Maybe what we can do is figure out how to lower our cost structure so that we can be more attractive to drive revenue and pull from the other cities.
So that's kind of my my tack.
