And he wants one so bad that he's willing to do evil things to get it.
Now, the guy's name is Joe, and Joe is 29 when all this starts, and he's living in Tennessee.
Now, here's the thing about him.
Joe loves cars, and he really wants his own car collection.
But there's a problem.
Joe works as a manager at a local shoe store, which means he doesn't get paid enough to buy himself a whole collection of cars.
So one day in the 90s, Joe decides to change careers.
and he becomes an insurance agent.
Maybe this will be the job that will finally let him make enough money to buy whatever cars he wants.
So he starts selling insurance, and he does okay at it, and he learns everything there is to know about the business.
And then, around 1997, he opens his own insurance business.
Nothing big, just, you know, helping other people set up their life insurance and annuities and stuff like that.
Now, it doesn't take too long for Joe to realize that he's still not making enough money from all this to buy the car collection that he really wants.
So I guess he decides that the only thing left to do is start scamming people.
So when a client comes to him wanting to set up an annuity, he will take their money and instead of sending it to the insurance company like he's supposed to, he sends it straight into his own bank account.
And then he'll lie to the client and tell them their whole annuity has been set up.
And this works, and it works well.
So he keeps doing it, with client after client after client, scamming them out of their funds.
And over time, all this stolen money he's sending to his own account starts to add up.
So he begins spending it on himself.
