And it makes sense now.

At the time I didn't realize and didn't understand it, but we put so much energy and effort and time and sacrifice into being like the best possible football player that we can be.

Whenever I try to draw like a parallel to help explain it, like just imagine you're a doctor

And you go to undergrad for four years and then you have to go to medical school and then you got to do your residencies and then you got to do these other things.

And you do all of that and you finally get to be a doctor and then you get the practice for three years and then they say, no, you can't do that anymore.

So immediately, all of a sudden, you are the thing that you have been known for.

The thing that you have been celebrated for is gone.

It's taken away.

And as a man, especially black man, back in the 90s, we didn't have therapy or any of that kind of stuff.

So we had to just kind of deal with our trauma.

So now I lose my my identity.

And I also got to deal with this trauma that I kind of compartmentalize because I didn't have to worry about it.

And it turns into being, like, the most, like, difficult transition, leaving the game that you love, then to be, like, quote, unquote, just a civilian.

And people are calling you, like, washed up and has-beens and that kind of stuff.

And, yeah, man, it was something that really required me to have to take a true, deep inner look at who I was.

I had to do some mental health work.
