I felt alone.
The few women that were doing the job, kind of doing the job, were untouchable and unreachable.
And they were probably protecting their jobs.
They didn't want, you know, on the old occasion that I would be in the presence of somebody who had come before me.
There wasn't a lot of warmth because, and I get it now, because I've seen it so many times.
And they were just desperate that I wasn't going to take their job because there's only one job.
for a woman at this particular, let's say, show.
So if I'm suddenly preferred to them, they're out.
And now where are they going?
Because there's only one job at all these places for 25 years ago.
The trailblazer thing...
I haven't really realised.
I've just been, I've had to be so focused on trying to get somewhere against all the odds over the last 25 years that really it's only been since I came to America that I've thought, my gosh, there are actually, and there are girls now that I have met who are 20 who will say to me, I've been watching you since I was seven.
First of all, I'm like, please, could we not with a map?
I mean, that is just hideous.
Absolutely hideous.
But now they're 20.
But I've had two or three just in the last week message me to say they're now doing broadcast journalism at college and they want to be a sports broadcaster.
And that's because of me.
I mean, so it's only really been when I felt safe, really safe in this country and really supported and seen as normal that I've realized that I'm a trailblazer, I suppose is the answer to that.
