And that position means that you're inside the monarch's bedchamber, sometimes sleeping in there as well.
What we do see is the Palace of Whitehall becomes, I mean, critics would say it becomes one huge brothel, essentially, because there are constantly women being taken through passages in the back of the palace.
Whitehall's not an attractive palace.
In the back of the palace to the king's bedchamber or other people's bedchambers.
And we see Rochester engaging in this.
So he procures women for different courtiers, and he's very aware of those types of things going on.

But he also starts writing as well.
So he's part of this merry gang.
The thing that elevates their friendship more than just drinking and debauchery is that most of them are interested in writing.
Some of them are active pens for hire.
Others are patrons of the arts.
Others dabble and are patrons of the arts and Rochester's one of those.
He dabbles, he writes a lot of poetry.
He sometimes writes bits and pieces with plays.
There's a sense that he edits some of the work that he's the patron of.
So he has a really mixed time at court, but he's also drinking an awful lot.
