He was taken by a Scottish physician who was his guardian as he was traveling.

And I do think it was impactful.
He went to the court of Louis XIV, for example.
He became familiar to, as much as you can be familiar if you're staying somewhere for a period of weeks rather than months, but he became familiar with the court.
He saw how it worked.
He liked being around courtiers, but he also liked seeing the big wide world and realised, I think, that
that things weren't as small as his home in Oxfordshire and then later going to study in Oxford, that actually there were more things going on and they were there ripe for the taking for someone like him.
He was really funny.
I think that's the key thing.
He was really witty and he did have that intellect where he could find humour in strange things.
He could draw parallels that other people perhaps wouldn't have drawn.
He was very rude.
He was much younger than the rest of the courtiers around Charles II.
