When I first got in Congress, this was something that when I voted the first 15 times and we had to go 15 times in a row to vote for Leader Jeffries.
And that was the first time an African-American had been.
nominated for the Speaker of the House.
And so I like teared up 15 times because there have been over 12,500 plus members of the United States House of Representatives, fewer than 160 African Americans have ever held this card to have the right to vote.
When I was a child, I thought I wanted to have a badge and I thought that was power, you know, maybe have a gun or something.
But then when I had this card, this is true power.
These are the persons that determine if the printing press comes on to produce more cash.
These are the persons that determine whether or not you're going to have SNAP benefits.
These are the people who determine who's going to have health care.
Like true power is being able to vote.
And so to be able to have their card.
And out of 12,500 plus, we've only had 160 or so.
Today, currently, we have 61 members in the Black Caucus.
And it's the highest number we've ever had.
And as we speak, 60 years after Reverend Martin Luther King's signature achievement on the Voting Rights Act, it's up for discussion right now at the Supreme Court.
30 days from now, the decision will be made.
Yeah, so if you think of who voted, let's say 77, 78 million people voted.
For a vice president who should have been President Harris, and let's say 80 million people voted for Trump, it was one and a half percentage point, maybe a million and a half votes.
It was 800,000 votes amongst those seven swing states, and 90 million people did not vote.
So if you look at it the other way, inverted, none of the above won.
