And it's kind of, you don't associate Spain with defending because they're such a possession team, but it's that classic thing of they're defending with the ball and kind of counter-pressing like a Guardiola team.
So it really reminded me of like, I know Real Madrid have won a lot of Champions League titles, but France looked like a Real Madrid team there, which is a very simple system designed to get the best out of superstar attackers.
And then Spain looks like Man City, for example, in their like a couple of years ago under Guardiola, where the system makes them more than the sum of their parts, which hasn't always been the case this tournament.
And France have looked like the best team.
And then the Spain system and that kind of identity that they can lean into without much training because it's so ingrained in all of their coaching upbringing.
That was too much for France in the end.
Funny to hear Mbappé complaining about other players not pressing correctly.
He has been doing more of that for France, which was interesting to see the contrast between his club and international.
But we should still expect more of France.
I think you know that Spain are going to play like that and have that system.
And maybe France have deceived us with some of their performances where the individual talent has got them over the line.
Like against Morocco, it was quite a stodgy game.

openings and Mbappe and Dembele both had a moment of magic but Spain didn't allow them to conjure that magic this time right like you kind of you look at their centre-backs Kubasi and Laporte and we associate them with being good on the ball but not necessarily being able to chase backwards and that would be the danger but the amount of passes that Laporte intercepted down that channel you kind of think why is he not still playing for an elite European side?
It's boring if they're playing against you.
Or frustrating you.
And with that kind of stardust that people maybe think Spain lack, they did have it with Laminia Mar yesterday.
He turned up more than he has done in previous games and Luca Dean had a horrendous game.
I felt quite bad for Luca Dean at left back.
