Well, as he said many times, every tactic involves a trade-off, right?

If you lean into doing one thing, it means you do less of a different thing or you just move risk around.

I suppose.

So, you know, if you park the bus and play in a low block, then you risk not scoring any goals, but whatever.

So the risk here, I guess, is that what John was explaining to us yesterday was that quite often teams will try to press quite aggressively when Arsenal are building from their goalkeeper.

And then once Arsenal get through that first wave of pressure, the opposition will kind of accept that.

They'll kind of cede control and be like, okay, fair enough, they got through that.

Once they're in settled possession.

Settled possession is the term he likes to use, yeah.

And then they'll maybe drop off and form something of a mid-block and wait for other opportunities to pounce.

Yeah.

But Brighton seemingly just...

kind of did it relentlessly, constantly.

And that took Arsenal by surprise.

You could see, like, I think in the first five minutes of the game, Raya has gone, he's tried to go semi-long to like a fullback, Califuri or Timber, but he's gone out of play.

He's done that two or three times in the first five, ten minutes.

And then you can sense the atmosphere kind of

heats up and the Arsenal players start to, not panic, but they are surprised at how much they're being pressed kind of in their own third or in the middle of the pitch because they're not used to it.

And like I say, it was a 3pm kick-off, so I wasn't able to watch the game in a full 90.

But from the highlights, it seemed like everything was just relentless pressing.
