There were two separate witnesses who reported seeing a woman matching Simone's description outside of the caravan park between eleven fifty PM and midnight.
One of those witnesses specifically described seeing a woman wearing black and red hippie style clothes near the roundabout between the caravan park and the bocci courts, a description that matches what Simone was wearing.
There was a third sighting too.
from a witness who said she saw a woman matching Simone's description in the same area.
But she said this was earlier, at about eleven twenty PM.
Then, Strickland raised the matter of screams coming from outside the caravan park on the night Simone was killed.
Incredibly, there were accounts from at least six people who reported hearing a woman's screams that night.
Almost all of them said the screams seemed to be coming from the direction of the sporting precinct and Bochi Court, where Simone's body was found.
The screams were described as forceful and terrifying.
One person said it sounded as if someone was being killed.
Several people said one scream lasted only a few seconds.
Before suddenly being cut off.
Three witnesses reported hearing a woman say, leave me alone.
Another said he heard a man saying
What have you done?
There had been witness accounts of a group of men drinking near the bocci courts.
Around the same time, Simone was seen walking in that direction.
Strickland asked Detective Mackey if it was reasonable to accept the screams that people heard were coming from that general area, around the bocce courts.
Detective Mackey said yes.
This inquest was hearing a very different account to what emerged at the first inquest all those years ago.
