Incredibly, multiple people confessed to killing Simone, either directly to police or to other people in the area.
But ultimately, police said they were all found to have had alibis or to have been big-noting themselves, some of them with accounts that didn't line up with the evidence.
I can't imagine why anyone would think confessing to a murder would be something to brag about, but it does happen.
Mental illness and substance abuse were also cited as reasons why they might have made up these confessions.
Alex says the police theory that Tobias had killed Simone made sense to him.
Alex said it seemed like the local police hadn't forgotten how Tobias had called them kindergarten cops.
The inquest was their chance to finally reveal the police work they'd done and why Tobias was their suspect.
