And that's when the noise happened and that's when the big, really big, fat, drunk cops, suddenly they were everywhere.
They'd actually, like a pincer movement, had surrounded us so we couldn't go anywhere.
Every street was blocked.
And the only way out was Darlinghurst Road and there they were just waiting to pick us off.
And so people were getting pulled out everywhere, push me, pull you.
Someone threw a really heavy lid into my back.
It really hurt.
I don't know who threw it.
I got grounded.
Then I got pulled.
And I had a friend trying to pull me this way.
My glasses were pulled off.
I pulled this way and that way.
But the cops, they were really big men, like rugby players, overweight rugby players.
Yeah, you could smell the alcohol.
No names, nothing.
I got thrown into a paddy wagon and then there was another person, another person, and then we got taken down to Darlinghurst Police Station and all the women in one jail, I think there were 23 of us, and then there were about 24 men in another one.
But we could hear each other.
I would imagine so because it was Darlinghurst.
Darlinghurst back then, it was very, very corrupt.
