But this is quite a tough challenge for them.

And it's at a time when, of course, they're operating either people working from home or very understaffed because a lot of the IRS operations are themselves closed.

It's been cranky.

There are people who kind of can't get through to the place where they can see the status of their payment.

And there's sort of a generic error message that's showing up for people that applies to a bunch of different situations.

And then people who are not able to get to the point where they can put in their bank account information to tell the IRS where to send a payment.

direct deposit instead of a paper check so the irs has millions of people have gotten through and track their payments and updated their bank information but you know there's tens of millions of people out there and lots of people are trying so i guess what i would say is you know i'd encourage people to be patient because it's not sure glitchy is the right word but it's it's certainly having some some issues and getting results for everybody

They don't get an alert before.

They get an alert after.

So what happens is if a payment is made to you, you should get a letter in the mail a couple of weeks from now that says, hey, we sent you a payment, and if you didn't get it, here's what you should do.

So keep an eye out for those.

And then remember, too, that there are more rounds of payments coming, either another wave of direct deposits, paper checks that will sort of spill out gradually over the next few months.

And then also for people who are on – who don't file tax returns and who are on Social Security, Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income, SSI –

Those payments will come sort of end of April, early May, and they'll happen not from necessarily a direct deposit.

They'll happen however it is you get your Social Security payment.

That can be on your Direct Express debit card.

It can be on direct deposit, paper check, however that typically works.

So there's millions of people who will get payments in sort of subsequent waves that are coming.

What should happen in that situation is the money will bounce back from the bank and then the IRS will put you on the paper checklist and you'll get a paper check in the mail at your last known address.
