My first LSD experience just brought me deep into my feelings in a way that I had not anticipated.
And it wasn't always easy.
The feelings were difficult.
It was scary to be losing control of the ego to of who I was, of letting go and letting feelings well up in me.
And I resisted it a lot.
I wouldn't say that my first LSD experience was this profound mystical experience of connection, but it was the struggle between rational control and the emergence of these very powerful emotions.

So it's a two-person therapy team and the essence of the method was basically developed by Stan Grof and others from their approach with high-dose LSD.

And it's based on a belief that there is an upwelling from the psyche that has healing potential.
And that we see that in dreams, that we all have this emergence into consciousness of sort of repressed fears or anxieties, or even just positive memories, that there was an inner healing mechanism.
That is a belief, but it's been based on empirical evidence from a lot of the psychedelic psychotherapy research for the last 40, 50 years.
The classic Freudian concept is that the therapists let you free associate and then they help interpret for you what's going on.
And so our sense is that the expert is you, the person is their own therapist, that our job is to support what's emerging.
And because it's an eight-hour session, we have the time and the patience for people to find their own ways.
Because what we find is at some point, people need to address the trauma and address it by describing it, by recalling it.
but then trying to transform the fearful emotions into ones of acceptance.
