Or if you're Davis and you're hunting something a little bit slower, then yes, you see that pitch coming by you at, what, 94, 95 on the outer half, and then you're like, I'm not even going to

not even going to look at that pitch.

So all of that to say, what can you do to try to be in control of the at-bat and executing a game plan is one of those ways.

And that's exactly what he did.

And taking the marginal pitch on the outer edge, even after striking out looking, and it would have been easy for somebody to come up there the very next at-bat and going, hey, I didn't even take my bat off of my shoulder.

I have to swing at something and just swing kind of out of the zone at the first pitch that you see.

But what's he really good at?

His plate discipline.

And so he stuck with that, got a pitch that he could hammer, hammers it over the green monster, comes up again, gets another changeup.

And Joe was even talking about it during the game.

And sometimes you're in those zones, too, where it feels like no matter the speed, no matter the pitch, you almost feel like you're one chess move ahead of where the pitcher is.

And that's kind of what it felt like.

And you could kind of get the sense that

Canely was going to have to go back to the changeup at some point, and sometimes a product of fouling off pitches or having good takes is all of a sudden you know the pitcher has no choice but to go to this one pitch, and you're ready for it.

But you've got to be ready to hit it when it's in the zone, and we've seen that even from this Blue Jays offense going back a couple of weeks where –

I felt like the batters were getting the pitches that they wanted in certain counts and swinging at them and just not doing damage on them.

So to be able to see them do damage consistently yesterday and put together really, really good at bats, the swings to me up and down the lineup, it just felt different.
