And so there's this like real paradox that the feeling of not having enough can actually trap you in some of those patterns that make financial insecurity worse.
And so like the anxiety you're trying to outrun ends up kind of steering your decisions.
It's a very interesting conversation.
You know, I keep going back to this one conversation I had with Ayman Ismail.
He's an Egyptian-American journalist.
And we had a conversation that you can hear in a future episode, but we were talking about his decision to send his kids to Islamic school.
And, you know, he opened up his budget and showed it to me, and he essentially said, I don't know if this is financially smart for me to do.
So I asked him, well, like, would you consider not sending them to Islamic school?
And without missing a beat, he was like, no.
Like, nothing is more important to me.
Nothing is more important to me than preserving our culture and our religion.
And I really keep going back to that moment.
It's a very small interaction, but I think it captures what I keep hearing from a lot of people and what we're talking about in a lot of ways, which is that money is so emotional, right?
It's how we express our values.
So many of the decisions we're making right now in this economy aren't about maximizing our dollars.
They're about deciding what we're willing to protect, even if it costs us.
And we're all making trade-offs.
And so it's this very real tension so many of our episodes get at.
And so I hope people will listen and recognize themselves in these stories, even if the details of their lives look a little different.
