By midday, Glenda Thorne could no longer walk.
All she could do was laboriously drag her left leg.
Which had ceased hours before.
And was now stiff as a tree branch.
The punishing sun had once again taken its commanding position in the sky.
The heat had completely burned off the epidermis of her face.

Her hair, drenched in sweat,
