The David Putz work would suggest it's more about formidability, or rather the increase in formidability would outpace the increase in... Do you want to just redo it?

So David Putz and his colleagues famously did this study

where they brought in a group of men and recorded them in these videos and very very short clips and then they brought in a different group of men to watch the men in these videos and then they asked these men who were watching these other men in the clip they asked them a question which is how likely is it that this man that you're watching in this clip could beat a man in a physical fight and it was arranged from very likely to very unlikely

And then they showed a group of women these videos as well of these men in these short clips.

And they asked these women, OK, this man in this video, how sexually attractive is this man?

And then these researchers followed up with those men in the videos 18 months later and collected data on them, including how many sexual partners they'd had over the previous 18 months.

And they found that how formidable they were predicted how many sexual partners they had, whereas how sexually attractive they were to these women had no relationship at all.

That's the most fucking insane study ever.

Now, as we mentioned, this was on college students, fraternity members, but... It was like a specific frat, wasn't it?

I think so, I'm not sure.

Okay.

But this is consistent with David Putz's other work showing that formidability seems to have this huge effect on sexual success.

Fame is also this form of psychological formidability, too, where I've seen... How well regarded.
