Why is that important?
So for a few hours of work a year, he's going to get paid nearly twice the amount of money that the average skilled worker would earn in a year working six days a week.
So at this point in history, if you're the average skilled worker earns less than six hundred dollars a year working six days a week.
And we see this later on in his life, too, because he's very pro union in his paper.
But when he has the most successful newspaper in the world and his own employees try to unionize, he's against it then.
And so then I want to get to the beginning of his media empire.
They approached Pulitzer to see if he would like to buy into the paper.
Pulitzer was the most valuable member of their staff, and he had toiled for them for five years.

They thought I was necessary to the paper.
They probably would have done the same thing to any other man who works 16 hours a day as I did for them.
Thus, seven years after reading his first copy of this paper in hopes of finding employment in St.
Louis, Pulitzer was an American newspaper publisher.
He is 25 years old.
It costs him about $5,000 to buy into the paper.
He doesn't have that money, so he goes into debt.
Buying into this newspaper was one of the best decisions he ever makes because the following year, he actually has a falling out with his two mentors.
It says the editorial office had grown too small for all three men, and so they offered to buy him out.
And so it says the price they proposed was mesmerite with the desire to be free of him.
Pulitzer walked away with about $30,000, six times his original investment.
