Today I'm speaking with Buck Slegaris, who is CEO of Redwood Research, who uh along with Anthropic is behind the alignment faking in large language models paper, which uh is uh made uh made a big splash a couple of couple of months ago.
Uh Redwood is also um the group I'd say behind a bit of a renaissance in this um agenda called AI control, which is uh gonna be a key part of the of our conversation today.

What is AI control and how is it different from alignment and other things that people are working on?
Okay.
And what exa what what kind of concretely are we trying to prevent uh the the the AIs who are po possibly uh misaligned from doing?
Yeah.
Y uh you're actually more worried about them potentially hacking the the data center inside the AI company than managing to to escape.
Yeah, can you explain why that is?
Yeah.
And I guess already in already inside the company with pot not not only having access to the to the compute, but also uh other resources potentially inside the company.

I think so control was not a a big part of the agenda until I guess the the last couple of years.
And um I guess my impression is that it wasn't prioritized because people felt that it was somewhat hopeless perhaps that if you if you're going through this intelligence explosion, if you had you were up against such a numerous adversary, then you really ha uh you were really up against it and you basically just had to try to make them friendly towards you.
