Uh I got yeah suppose you you have three kids as well and I imagine that the oldest might be approaching school age uh pretty soon if if not already.
Um do do you think they're gonna
be be actually taught by a by a L L M teacher at any point soon?
Yeah, I think um uh tutoring I think is slight slightly famously like especially useful for exceptionally strong students who can like r potentially rush ahead if they have, you know, a tutor there available to to help them.
And also for students who are really struggling and might if they're if they're stuck in a class where they're significantly behind, they're just not gonna be learning almost anything 'cause they 'cause they just don't have enough understanding to even track what's going on.
Uh so you could see it like yeah, benefiting uh d diff different groups in really quite quite enormous ways.
And we haven't even mentioned Alpha Fold Two, which uh I guess uh from what I I haven't followed this in detail, but from what I've heard it's like incre it's incredibly useful for medical research and for drug design and so on.
So yeah, we just gotta we've gotta do all of the stuff discussed in the last few hours and then we can uh can enjoy this uh wonderful brave new world with all of these uh fantastic new products and much better, much better quality of life, fingers crossed.
Yes.
Um my guest today has been uh Alan Defoe.
Uh, look forward to talking to you again uh next uh next time on the show.
Hey everyone, Rob Wiblin here.
The three biggest AI companies, Anthropic, OpenAI, and DeepMind, have now all released policies designed to make their AI models less likely to go rogue while they're in the process of becoming as capable as, and then gradually more capable than any human being.
Anthropic calls their one a responsible scaling policy or RSP, OpenAI uses the term preparedness framework, and DeepMind calls their one a frontier safety framework.
But fundamentally, they all have a lot in common.
They try to measure what possibly dangerous things each new model is actually able to do.
And then as that list grows, put in place new safeguards that feel proportionate to the risk that they think exists at that point in time.
This is likely to remain the dominant approach, at least in industry.
So I was really excited to speak with Nick Joseph, one of the original co-founders of Anthropic and a big outspoken fan of responsible scaling policies, about why he thinks Anthropics RSP has a lot going for it, how it might make a real difference as we approach the training of a true, full AGI, and why, in his view, it should be thought of as a sort of middle way that ought to be acceptable to almost everyone.
After hearing out that case, I push Nick on the best objections to RSPs that I could either come up with myself or find on the internet.
