I remember uh interviewing George Osborne for for for uh for a previous book and the Queen had um come up to him at a state banquet and said said something along the lines of What are you doing with my bagpiping school?
Um the smallest establishment in the British Army is the British Army School of Bagpiping in uh in Scotland.
And George Osborne said, uh I I'm not sure ma'am
I'll find out.
He went into his office the next day and said, Is there a school of bagpiping?
Are we closing it down?
And if we are, we're not anymore.
Uh and the uh Army School of Bagpiping survived to pipe another day.
No, I mean you're you're absolutely right, Francis.
She she was uh I I I it's why in a way talking about a second Elizabethan age, it doesn't really work 'cause it was such a huge span of time.
You know, when she became queen, half the nations on earth that exist today just didn't exist then.
Um, you know, they're they're they've they've they've evolved since new boundaries, titles, constitutions, flags, you know, names.
I mean, you know, Yugoslavia was around then.
Not a thing anymore.
There were two Germanies.
Um and and and and she reigned through all that.
Um when she first came to the throne, the the Korean War was still going on, which was essentially uh more or less in in in fighting terms, an extension of the Second World War.
Um and that was that was happening.
Um we were still on rations when she came.
As you said, Churchill was in Downing Street, and so she's reigned through uh, you know, the the the the jet age was.
