But Jim O'Neill repeated what he said on our podcast last you know, he said he said this he said it was important to, you know, reform the triple lock, uh which pushes up the the the the rewards to pensioners every year uh and is perceived particularly by the Office of Budget Responsibility matched

Responsibility as a big fiscal millstone round our next because it increases the share uh of of public spending over the next ten, twenty, thirty, forty years taken by the state pension because of the triple lock is going up by tens of billions of pounds. matched

I mean three or four I think over something like fifty years, i you know, the the OBR you know estimates that it'll take another three matched

That's an enormous amount of money. matched

And ever pretty much every economist you talk if you if you want to get a unanimous view from economists, they will say the triple lock is unaffordable. matched

But because it's about it's perceived to be about matched

You know, uh decreasing the rate of increase of earnings of pensioners and pensioners vote. matched

No politician is prepared to stand up uh and publicly commit to reforming the triple lock. matched

Uh he said on our podcast that was vital. matched

He repeated it just a few days ago. matched

That sounded to most people like he was criticizing Andy Burnham, and I think that is indeed what he was doing. matched
