And um I mean first of all let me say the Ashenbrenner essay was uh retweeted by no no less a personage than Ivanka Trump.
So yeah, it got in the conversation.
I don't know how many Twitter followers she had, but that was noted, right?
And I mean, separate from that, Trump, uh you know, a number of people in Silicon Valley had Trump's ear uh by virtue of uh donations and so on.
But anyway, the scenario in that essay
Is that
Once you get to this sometimes vaguely defined thing called artificial general intelligence, you are approaching a kind of takeoff point.
uh in the evolution of artificial intelligence and suddenly you're in super intelligence realm the realm and that gives you such an ad you know things move so fast that if you get to this threshold first then like you know a few months later you have utter dominance over all rivals and we're not just we're not talking mainly about weaponry here as I understand it, although it may involve that.
As I understand it, they're saying, like, you can just say to the AI, go find a way to infiltrate uh China's social media and convince them that their government sucks, right?
I mean, I I think people are imagining uh a future where the AI is that smart and responds to directives that broad.
I just thought that up myself.
I haven't seen it, but I assume that's the kind of thing they're talking about.
And so
The Ash and Brenner essay, and I hope we'll have time to get around uh to saying some things about that.
Um, because like the Dario essay, uh I mean, the Dario essay in its defense, that part of it was short.
He didn't have time to do a whole argument.
The Ash and Brenner argument, the whole essay is about uh in effect why we should be China Hog
It's not short, and yet I see fundamental assumptions behind that not being addressed or even stated.
And I I hope we'll get around to that.
But uh tell me, is this um i is one reason uh the China Hawkism is caught on in the AI circles is because uh uh among a lot of people that view was already uh
