You mentioned that Satiricus and I I love his name, I you know, most my sort of familiarity with the Roman Empire sadly comes from Asterix and Obelix, I'm mostly slothers of slightly newer centuries, but this is delightful for me.
Uh y you mention he's a tenant farmer, right?
So so he didn't own his own land.
Is that the normal way of things back then for the ordinary
So what did these portfolios look like?
Were they sort of a a tiny plot of land that they might own themselves outside their own home and then they rent larger tracts somewhere else, a mix of them?
Do they have to travel far to get to these things?
Okay, well that sounds suboptimal, but probably unavoidable.

So Satiricus doesn't own his own land in the real Satiricus.
Uh he's poor and he has to rent it on a fairly short-term basis.
Uh I'm curious, what did that cost?
Like what were the land rent rates at the time?
If life was that tough and you know the the money he sat ended up with was so low after having worked all year round on all these different plots of land, how did his family survive?
Did they have enough?
Because I mean we tend to think of in the popular imagination, ancient Rome, even sort of uh non-Roman parts, direct Roman parts like Egypt, as being fantastically wealthy.
Uh but life sounds quite tough for not just you know our little hero Satiricus, but also little Atia, little Horus as well, right?
