And we are once again joined uh to talk about the aftermath or the South Sea Bubble by Thomas Levinson, uh the author of Money for Nothing, The South Sea Bubble and the Invention of Modern Capitalism, a killer title, among many other books, frankly Tom.

You've written quite a lot.

So, Tom, thanks so much for being here today again.

I I was worried you might get tired of me.

It's great to be here.

So, Tom, I mean, can you give us a quick recap of the South Sea

Bubble for listeners that might not know, what was the South Sea Company and why did it cause such a gigantic disaster?

Trevor Burrus, Jr.: So to use the kind of a American metaphor, is this the first time Main Street or Wall Street really collided, essentially?

But he had a pretty colourful background as well, right?

He was at one point imprisoned in the Tower of London, convicted for corruption.

economically sophisticated as well.

He actually cared about what n you know was becoming the field of economics and kind of was interested in these things, financial matters.

He was, yeah.

Well, this returning to the economic side.

So when he comes into government as sort of the saviour, somebody who is untainted by the crisis and more than usually financially literate and economically literate, I assume that the first priority is not just these trials, but just preventing a national collapse, right?
