Because we don't even have to look that far, we can just look across the channel to France, because at the same time as all this is going on, there's obviously a similar phenomenon happening in France, known as the Mississippi Bubble.

Uh but Tom, how does the South Sea bubble fall out, you think, compare to what happened in France with the Mississippi bubble?

But how did it get it wrong?

Because my understanding was that the French, you know, they did actually sit down and and run up tables, collect all the data from like hundreds of thousands of people to see who had exchanged French debt for shares and the Mississippi Company.

And they were kind of people that were victims and swept up in the scheme.

But they also differentiated those from speculators that just bought the shares later on.

That sounds to me like a a better

Approach than the British one.

Okay, so it's quite interesting that basically the diverging fortunes of France and Britain around this point, to a s an extent at least, boils down to the different approaches to very similar kind of financial manias.
