We take a close look at investigations and make sure certain things are being done in a timely manner.

And that's micromanaging.

Every police department can't be micromanaged.

One of the things that I want to believe that I brought out to Suffolk County is I had no alliances, no allegiance with anybody.

I'm an outsider.

So I have no issue holding anybody accountable.

And if I have to transfer somebody or move them off the case or, you know, challenge the investigators to make sure certain things that they say were going to be done were done in the next meeting, then that was a little bit of a difference maker that they had to deal with.

And there was some frustration.

Like, you know, listen, historically, investigators really don't get challenged as much.

in Suffolk County as you do in the NYPD.

I actually brought CompStat out to Suffolk County and

That caused people to retire because they didn't want that accountability and that executive oversight.

So in essence, it was a different dynamic.

It was something that they weren't used to.

But I will say with my partnerships with Ray Tierney, with my partnership with Steve Udis from State Police, Mike Brodick from the FBI,

And having those weekly meetings, I think there was a change in we can't just put investigative steps to the side and come up with excuses every single week.

We would challenge them on a weekly basis to make sure things were being done and done in an expeditious manner.

I didn't personally make the selections.

I allowed Kevin Byra, who was the detective lieutenant for the Homicide Squad, make the selections.

I said, listen, make sure you give me some qualified people here.
