But that was not the view at the time.

The view at the time was that Lifchitz and Feletnikov had shown that singularities didn't occur in general.

I didn't take them very seriously.

I did think about whether this was likely to be correct or not, and came to the view that probably

I had been thinking about related problems, um, and I'd probably

vaguely formed that view.
