The dreaded one hole.
And if you want to talk about Nigel trying to get his convertible around anywhere, I think the only place where there's worse traffic than the one hole in the Kentucky Derby is around Columbia Country Club.
I think those are the only two places on earth you're going to find bad traffic coming out of an inside post.
And that's where Renegades got.
I think what's going to happen is bettors are going to look at that as more money pours in and is the horse good enough to overcome that.
And even trainer Todd Pletcher said...
He had gotten the word about where the draw was while he was flying, and the moment he heard he was in the one, he reached for the air sickness bag.
So that's how they feel about it, and that is going to be one of the big storylines coming up this week.
Well, the problem is he's kind of a tweener.
He's an off-the-pace horse, but he's not a dead stone closer.
Right.
So he's in danger of getting either pinched or he's going to have to work out a trip from behind traffic or both.
We have a new gate here with 20 stalls in one unit.
It used to be at 14 and 1, and they had to bring in another gate.
And basically, if you ran straight out of the one hole, you'd run into the rail if you didn't veer in.
Now you can run a straight line, but other horses are going to have something to say about that.
So we'll see.
He's going to have to work out a trip.
He's got Erod Ortiz Jr., who's won a zillion Eclipse Awards as the top jockey in the country, but he's never won a Kentucky Derby.
So he's got that.
