won game two.
And now it's the deciding game on a Saturday night in just hockey-crazy Montreal.
The U.S.
had never beaten Canada in a Canada Cup or now the new World Cup.
And that night, Canada was leading 2-1 in the third period.
And Claude Lemieux came down.
He was a right winger.
He came down into the left wing corner to slap the puck around, try to rim it out.
And it didn't get out.
It went to Brian Leach at the far left point for Brian left point.
He took a shot.
Brett Hull deflected it.
There was a review.
Was it over the shoulders?
They deemed it a good goal.
That tied the game and the U.S.
went on to win at 5-2.
Well, after the show, after the game itself, Grapes and I are on the air and Grapes just
tears Claude Lemieux to shreds for having been so stupid how could the right winger not realize he's the right winger and he dumps the puck around to the right wing who did he think was going to get it he's the right winger he's down in the left wing corner so he just carves poor Claude and then the next morning where you know we have our drinks and we get up and go to the airport and there's only three people in the Air Canada lounge Don me and you know Claude Lemieux I thought oh my god this is going to be a disaster and Claude was terrific
