My name is Ronan Lowther.

I'm the Policy and Communications Lead with Nursing Homes Ireland.

Nursing Homes Ireland is the national representative organisation for the private and voluntary nursing home sector in Ireland.

We represent a wide variety of

of members from across the length and breadth of the country who provide long-term residential care services to over 30,000 residents nationwide.

So in Ireland, it's roughly a little bit over 550 nursing homes in Ireland across HSE, voluntary and private.

Tell me a little bit about Nursing Home Ireland's week.

So Nursing Home Ireland's week

is a national campaign that is typically held in August.

This year it's going to be run from the 17th to the 23rd of August, 2026.

And it's an opportunity for nursing homes across the length and breadth of the country to get involved in a national campaign that helps to celebrate the residents, the staff, the family members, the supporters and the communities which they're situated in right across the country.

So this year we've developed a team of Connected with Nature to guide Nursing Homes Week 2026.

And the reason we felt that this was kind of most appropriate for this year was that so many of our members, like the two Marys you spoke to from Craddock House, are already doing so much for the residents to get them connected with nature again and to celebrate the local nature spots and the horticultural elements of their area.

individual nursing homes but also the communities that they're situated within and you know nursing homes are a very vibrant and active part of all the communities that they're located in and we feel that the connect with nature team offers an opportunity for nursing homes residents staff members and the families to open up and engage with local nature groups local bird watching societies and historical societies across the country to celebrate nature and all the benefits that it brings to everybody involved

Absolutely, Terry, yeah.

So we've actually, you know, we're calling on all nursing homes across the country to register and get involved in Nursing Homes Week.

We've also developed quite a comprehensive brochure for the Connected with Nature team for Nursing Homes Ireland Nursing Homes Week 2026,

which nursing homes across the country can access via our website.
