With Casement, nothing is straightforward.
His sexuality is an issue.
Now he's amongst the LGBT community.
He's considered as a symbol in some place as a hero.
But what is also problematic is the fact that the youth of many of his partners were teenagers.
So in our modern mentality, that is problematic.
Also, the fact that he's buried in Dublin in Glasnevin Cemetery at the Republican plot.
He didn't want to be buried there.
He wanted to be buried in the boyhood glens of Antrim where he was from.
And yet the condition of the British returning his remains here was that he would not cross the border because even decades after his death, Roger Casement remained radioactive and they felt that he could not be in Northern Ireland.
Conceivably.
I mean, had the diaries become public, yes.
Also, what would he have done in the Civil War?
Which side would he have gone with?
And conceivably, some people speculate he might have become – had he chosen the right side, he could have become president.
