How would you describe it?
The book was inspired by not seeing many stories that represented her loved ones.
Professor Raymond Ma describes the connection between reading fiction and empathy as a bi-directional relationship.
Raymond says there are challenges that come with this kind of research.
For example, the effects of reading fiction only really emerge after prolonged and frequent exposure.
The effects of reading can be seen amongst children and adults, but sometimes in different ways.
It also plays an important role for teenagers working through new life experiences.
And regardless of your age, as we've said, stories introduce us to other perspectives.
