I'm not totally against what Jamie says here.
I think you could make that work if you reduce the amount of round robin to a pure round robin, everyone plays everyone once, and then increase the playoffs.
So there's more playoff footy in comparison to round robin footy and have a home and away fixture.
You can have a similar length to the season, probably a similar number of games, but maybe more games with something on the line.
and that could work.
The other weird one is the step ladder system.
When I was doing some research into some things, and this is a Japanese invention, apparently within baseball.
Now this reduces the number of games each weekend, which I don't think works for us, but the idea of five playing six and then the winner of five playing six playing number four, and then you have a step ladder all the way to number one, but it means the first team has four weeks off.
Guaranteed finalists.
I could see why they scrapped it, but it was an interesting concept.
And then there's the McIntyre system that Aussie league uses where one plays two in the first week for the right to go straight through to the grand final.
Again, it means that your best team doesn't play for a couple of weeks.
So it kind of doesn't make complete sense.
That's the other thing.
You're engaging fewer fans, aren't you, if they're always playing as the fifth and sixth qualifier or whatever it might be in the playoffs.
Well, could you do it in a way that the Japanese do it where the Aussies are allowed a certain number of Kiwis and you say you're allowed two to three Kiwis that are allowed on the field at a time?
Do you exclude one Kiwi and one Aussie from each scene team from the salary cap?
Yeah.
In a controlled market like that where, you know, there's private ownership is not really a full factor.
It's kind of a dipping the toes and to try to get some money from somewhere else kind of factor.
