Yeah, so to me, the headline takeaway is this.
The federal government is all in on digitizing disbursements and collections, and that legitimizes, accelerates, and scales the future of real-time payments and open payments infrastructure in the U.S.,
It's not just back office modernization.
It's a signal that the largest single source of payments in the U.S.
is prioritizing digital rails, potentially unlocking new innovations, and in instant payments, digital payments, account validation, and embedded finance.
They all stand to gain.
Yeah, my counterpoint would be, while it's true that it is a small percentage of payments that are made by check, that small slice still represents hundreds of millions of payments and billions of dollars.
More importantly, the EO sets a policy precedent.
So it's not just about the remaining checks.
It's about mandating digitization as the default.
It's about creating API-driven frameworks for future payments.
It's about encouraging private sector innovation to support government-grade digital disbursements.
So yeah, to me, it is a big deal.
The volume might be low, but the implications are huge for interoperability, for the trustability of rails, and for how fintechs align their products with federal systems.
It's still allowed.
