And then that legislation might look, on the Democratic side, more progressive than it would have even under Joe Biden, who did pass fairly progressive legislation, considering that he himself was a more moderate Democrat.
So I think that's the trend that we're going to see.
Now, what will be interesting is if the Democrats do take control of the House and Senate this year,
The next two years, Trump will still be president.
And so if they want the government to stay open, let alone pass major legislation, it's going to need, by definition, bipartisan support because it'll be passed by a Democratic Congress and it'll need to be signed by a Republican president.
Well, I think the lowest hanging fruit is simply oversight, right?
Because they would control the committees.
They would be able to subpoena the Trump administration.
That will be probably the first thing that they try to do.
And then they would just use their leverage for government, for federal funding, right?
I mean, the Trump administration has decimated the federal government, and the Democrats would now have the power of the purse, right?
So
they would be able to say, hey, we are going to fund the government and then we'll see how Trump reacts.
We'll see if Trump pivots at all or if he's perfectly happy to basically have the government all but shut down for two years.
It's going to be an interesting dynamic, but there's no guarantee that they'll be able to work together given where Trump is right now and certainly where the Democratic Party is right now.
Well, it seems like Al-Sayed had and has had momentum.
There was a third candidate in the race, Mallory McMorrow, who was sort of trying to take a lane between Al-Sayed and Stevens, progressive but not quite as far left as
as Abdul El-Sayed.
She dropped out.
