I'm not able to contractually because I can only work for this one company.
He's like, I've been going through depression for the last two or three years because I can't grow.
We took on money.
And now because of the money we took on, these companies,
the people who invested in us, they're making us do things I ethically don't feel good with, but I have to do it because they want growth month after month.
So we're doing things I don't feel comfortable with, I don't feel good with, but I have to because they own me.
And he's like, if I was you and you don't have to, I would not take on any money.
I was like, whoa, just a little private moment.
I'm so grateful for him for actually sharing that.
It's crazy, four or five years later, he wrote a book called Lost and Founder.
If you guys want a really good book about what happens when you go VC route, he goes through the whole story there.
It's a really good book.
But he told me that, and I remember on the drive home, I remember voxing Todd and everybody on our team.
I was just like, hey, this is what's happened.
I was like, let's not take on money.
Like, let's keep this thing ourselves.
Let's do it so we can do it the way we want to do it.
So we're not being dictated by a board of directors who we owe money to.
Let's stick this and do it our way.
And luckily, they said yes, too.
