Elena Rybakina took Irina Sabalenka's US Open title away from her in the way that she is already taking her world number one position away by winning the deciding set by six games to two.
And she played an exceptionally high level in that final set.

She was lucky not to be docked a point for smashing a racket and she cut the look of a figure who didn't believe she could beat Rybakina and that was probably close to the truth because Rybakina was quite superb.
Yes, I think it's the best rivalry in the women's game.

Sabalenka has won 10 of their 18 matches, so it's very, very close indeed.
And we shall see, given the age they are, 28 Sabalenka, 27 Rybakina, they have a number of years still left in their prime, and they will certainly start 2027 as the players to beat.
