Like, okay, so years ago, I used to wear very high shoes, stiletto heels.
I preferred not wearing them while driving because it would hinder the way my foot fit on the pedal and I wouldn't want to make a mistake.
Okay.
Same thing.
If you're wearing flip-flops, if you're driving a vehicle that is manual, you're clutching.
You're clutching.
You're shifting.

So the point is you need to make sure that it doesn't hinder that.
Now, aside from that, there is, it does state, footwear to avoid is flip-flops, sandals, and unstrapped footwear are strongly discouraged as they can easily tangle or slip off, potentially causing control issues.
Company policies can override what FMCSA states.
If a company policy says you're not allowed to wear them, you're not allowed to wear them.
But there's one other thing that drivers aren't thinking of, and that's OSHA.
OSHA requires you to wear certain shoes the minute you get out of your truck and go in the back in your trailer to unload a trailer, to load a trailer, or if you're stepping foot on someone's dock and in their company, their policy but also OSHA.
Let's put it this way.
If you get hurt on someone's landing dock,
or their warehouse, and you have the wrong footwear on, OSHA's going to get you for not being properly wearing the proper footwear to be on or in their warehouse.
