I think it's being in that mindset as well that just because you don't win doesn't mean that it's bad because obviously there's a huge amount of people applying, but it's still worthwhile to get that milestone in place, for me at least.

Yeah, so once I signed with Megan at Bergstrom Studios, we did another round of edits.

Quite rightly, she suggested changing the title from Emotional Transport, which in hindsight, not that catchy, to The Carriers.

It is now The Carrier without the S, which is a recent change, but sort of repackaging it more about the women and the carriers than like the concept of emotional transport.

So I think that was a really good reframe.

And then we went out on submission and it took months like of just tumbleweed and a few like enthusiastic, but no thank you messages until Thorne Ryan, who is the deputy publishing director of Bantam Books, which are an imprint of Penguin, got back to me and she said, you know, really loved Bantam.

the concept, was looking for something that was in the sort of severance-y, like, issue-based, with a bit of speculative sci-fi twist.

That's what she was after, so it was really good timing.

I say it was good timing.

I got the call when I was six months pregnant.

And Nicole was very much like, love it, but huge amount of work to do because her remit is like thriller and crime.

And if I'm really honest, when I wrote this book, I didn't necessarily, I wasn't thinking this as a thriller.

So I wasn't trying to make it fit into the genre of being a thriller.

And film was like, you know, if I take this on, I want to make sure it fulfills the thriller genre.

So there will be like substantial rewrites.

And I was like, fantastic.

Sounds great.

I am six months pregnant.

So I will do my best before the baby.

And hopefully I will be capable after the baby.
