So when I talked to him, Kenny Rubenstein had just put in his orders for the fall season.
And when he looked at his own internal records, there was a certain number.
He bought 75% of that number.
He just felt he should be a little cautious.
And if business is really strong,
he can fill in at the end of the year.
Now, he had a very good year last year, but he's just a little nervous.
And there are also some of them deal with corporate customers as well, and they're on the receiving end of things that corporations are doing.
One of the companies I talk to is a software consulting firm that works with agribusiness firms, you know, these big agricultural companies.
And some of their customers have become a little nervous, and so they're being more cautious about their spending on software and hardware.
So often the small businesses will get some inkling whether it comes from the consumer or it comes from their business customers.

The labor market is tight.
At least it's tight if you're an employer trying to find workers.
There were 5.7 million job openings in May, and that's creating challenges for companies of all sizes.
Well, what happens is small firms typically pay less than bigger companies and they have less generous benefits.
They operate with smaller margins.
But what's happening is smaller firms are having to play catch up.
So their raises aren't as big still as the bigger companies, but they're getting closer and wage growth is accelerating faster at small firms because they really want to hang on to the workers that they value.
Some of the stories I'm hearing are, first of all, companies are giving bigger raises and bigger increases in benefits than they have historically.
