And what they did is they hired a general manager in Bill Gannon.
We had a big story about it at ESPN.
All those veterans, like a Foligno that could have left, a Brodine, a Spurgeon, like Erickson, Ed.
They all could have left in free agency.
But they got a GM who got them to understand what the big-term vision was.
They put the money into a practice facility.
They have made Minnesota such an attractive place that they're like, we don't want anyone to leave.
Even Matt Zuccarello sat there and talked about, like, there's no hard feelings.
That's just the business.
Guys want to play in Minnesota.
Detroit has to find its version of that.
It's hard to say for these reasons because everything the Wild had done from an infrastructure standpoint made them attractive.
Not that the Red Wings don't have the infrastructure, but the way those Wild players talk about the infrastructure there, how close it is to the arena, just like the overall ecosystem, it's a really fascinating proposition.
It's just the other thing about it too is they both have really good young talent.
It's just that with the Wild's young talent, you have a better idea, and maybe this is an ignorant thing to say, but also give a better idea of what Matt Boldy is, what Ross Faber is.
You have a better idea of what that identity is, whereas with the Red Wings, it's like,
You know there's a lot of promise, but there comes a point where promise has to materialize in the playoff appearances, and it just hasn't yet.
And if you get Quinn Hughes to the Red Wings, it's hard to say if it's that shift where, oh, it's a place guys want to go to much in the same way as Minnesota, but it probably does make it a more attractive place than it currently is at the moment.
It'll make them interesting.
